Meet Cancer Support Community of Greater Ann Arbor (Michigan): Support, Hope, and Connection for Everyone Impacted by Cancer

Cancer Support, Community & Team, Emotional Support & Counseling

When I was diagnosed with cancer in 2020, I remember getting angry.  But I wasn’t sure with whom I was angry.  But I was indeed angry. I remember thinking, “Fine, the worse I feel, I will offset it with kindness.”  I thought this with anger.  “You hurt me, I help others!”  I wanted to prove to fate that I would offset this bad news.

For reasons I am not sure, my cat Keith got a loyal following as he helped me through my journey. I started making shirts and people asked for them. Again, I told fate, “I don’t care how much money I spend, I won’t even check (because if I did, I probably would have stopped)!”

Years later, Keith the Cat Foundation is a 501c3.  I must check how much money I get through donations and spend because Uncle Sam requires it. Still, I won’t let that daunting task stop me. I will send shirts and care packages to offset the sadness of cancer.

Please help me fight sadness with goodness and check out our Go Fund Me page.  Love one another.

Cancer Support Community of Greater Ann Arbor

Cancer Support Community of Greater Ann Arbor is a local nonprofit connected to the largest and most comprehensive cancer support program in the country, bringing free support, education, and connection to people impacted by cancer in our community. Founded locally by committed community volunteers who had each been personally touched by cancer, our organization was built on the understanding that traditional medical treatment is only one part of cancer care. This belief continues to guide everything we do today, as we offer a welcoming space where patients, survivors, caregivers, children, and loved ones can find connection, encouragement, practical support, and a sense of community throughout their cancer experience.

Our mission at CSC is to uplift and strengthen individuals affected by cancer by providing meaningful support, fostering community, and breaking down barriers to care. At CSC, we recognize that cancer affects more than one’s physical health, also impacting emotional well-being, relationships, finances, identity, family roles, and a person’s sense of stability. Our vision focuses on ensuring everyone impacted by cancer has access to the support and care they want and need at every phase of their experience, regardless of where they are in treatment, survivorship, caregiving, or grief.

The programs we offer focus on support, education, healthy lifestyle, resource connections, social events, and practical assistance. These professionally led programs are designed to enhance quality of life, strengthen survivorship, and support the emotional and social needs of those impacted by cancer.

Through their generous T-shirt donation, Keith the Cat is helping us share a meaningful symbol of comfort, hope, and connection with individuals and families across our programs, including those we support through Mott Children’s Hospital. At Mott, these shirts can offer children, families, and caregivers a small source of encouragement during an especially difficult time, while also helping extend CSC’s mission of providing emotional support and community-based care beyond our regular program spaces.

For someone navigating cancer, a T-shirt can be more than something to wear. It can be a small but powerful reminder that they are seen, supported, and not alone. The Keith the Cat shirts will help us extend that message to children, families, caregivers, patients, and survivors across our community. Whether received during a program or a moment when encouragement is needed, these shirts will serve as a symbol of care and connection.

We are grateful for the opportunity to share Keith the Cat’s message with the individuals and families we serve. This partnership reflects our shared values of compassion, connection, and community, helping us continue to offer meaningful support to those impacted by cancer.
